Yes, Real Life Hunger Games are coming to Russia. Yes, you read that right. Russia is planning a new ultimate brutal reality TV show just based upon the Hunger game movies.
The TV series which is set to start filing and broadcasting in July from the internet worldwide will be called Games 2: Winter. 2,000 cameras will be set up in the forests to film what the contestants are up to and each one will carry a portable camera. There will be 30 “contestants” which consist of 15 females and 15 males from various parts of the world. This show will take place in Siberia on a large island in the Tomsk region along the Ob River, which is the seventh longest river in the world. The games area is 900 hectares – just under three times the size of New York’s Central Park.
The program will will be filmed and broadcast 24 hours a day on an internet TV Channel for 9 months and will be translated into English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese and Arabic, and there has reportedly been interest from mainstream broadcasters in five countries to air it on television. This show will really test the contestants survival skills, the island temperatures drop as low as 40 below zero and is infested with brown bears.
Upon arriving the contestants will be given 220 pounds of “storage” which consists of clothing (winter), tools (like a handsaw and axe), fishing rods, ropes, soaps, salt and sugar and this is all they will get. These items will not be replaced and they are not allowed to bring anything to the island with them. Once that is done they will be given initial tips about surviving in Siberia like how to catch an otter or what to do when you meet a wild bear. They also will be giving a task upon their arrival to build them a place to live in during the autumn and winter. Their survival will depend on growing and storing food in the winter and catching fish which lucky for them there is a great supply of in the Ob, or the killing game. Yes you read that right killing game. During their stay on the island a presenter will announce that a group of criminals broke out of a nearby jail and they are on the island. Then they will be task to catch the criminals and whoever does will get a prize from a sponsor.
Now they will be told ahead of the show that “Everything is allowed. Fighting, alcohol, murder, rape… anything. The show will not intervene, however whatever they do they are still held to the Russian Criminal Code and can be arrested at anytime. So what that means is that anything they do can still get them in trouble if the police or other law enforcement agencies deem it necessary. They will be playing until April 1, 2018 for the grand prize of 1.7 million dollars. Now there is a chance that they will get a little help. Each week participants may request some item from viewers who will be able to donate money for it via the project’s website and purchased items will then be delivered to participants. The men and women on the show will been given special survival training by former GRU Spetsnaz operatives, who used to work under Russia’s military intelligence service. The contestant will all be over 18 and must be “sane”. They will also have to pay almost $ 17,000 – or be voted in by viewers. All participants will have to sign a release of liability in case they’re injured or die. If they’re in trouble or want to leave the show, they can hit a panic button on a satellite phone and be rescue.
